At 55, I'm an older personal trainer originally from Tonbridge, Kent, UK and now based in Turre, Almeria. My passion for a career in all things fitness and nutrition arrived relatively late in my life, although I’ve been exercising my whole adult life.
I am the author of How 2 Get Fit 4 Later Life, a fitness and nutrition guide for people aged 60 and above, and How 2 Go Vegan 4 Weight Loss, an introduction to veganism. Both books are available on Amazon.
I’m working to establish Young At Heart Fitness as the go to personal training service for people who are in their 50s, 60s and 70s who prefer to train in the privacy and convenience of their own home, garden, swimming pool or in my private gym studio.
I studied for my internationally recognised Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training at YMCAfit in London, one of the UK’s leading personal trainer educational providers. In addition, I have studied for a further qualification with YMCAfit; Exercise for Older Adults and Aqua Fitness with TQUK.
As part of my duty of care and safeguarding to my clients, I am also a trained first aider and hold public liability insurance cover in excess of €10 million.

Twice Weekly Online HIIT Classes
45-minute flexibility, aerobic-fitness, balance and strength online exercise classes held each Monday and Thursday, at Midday with video recordings available should you miss a class. Video library of all previous HIIT classes included to watch on demand. Equipment needed: Dumbbells, sturdy dining room chair.

How 2 Get Fit 4 Later Life
In just 12-weeks you will dramatically improve your flexibility, balance and strength. You’ll be completing over 50 routines, including 23 flexibility, balance and strength workouts that you do at home. Course as featured in my book, How 2 Get Fit 4 Later Life. Equipment needed: Dumbbells, sturdy dining room chair.
Client / Young At Heart Fitness (YAH) Agreement
The YAH personal trainer will use his skills and knowledge to design a safe programme of exercise that will take into account the personal goals, fitness levels and exercise likes and dislikes.
The trainer will provide the coaching, supervision advice and support that the client may need to help them achieve their goals. The client’s progress will be regularly monitored and the programme revised and adjusted accordingly.
The trainer will provide all necessary equipment and will organise appropriate venues including the client’s home for all training sessions.
All client information will be kept strictly private and confidential. If the trainer requires further medical information from a practitioner, the client must provide such details.
It is understood between client and trainer that both will commit to the programme and give 100% effort.
The client is required to wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Clothes should be loose fitting and non-restrictive. Footwear should be comfortable and provide adequate support.
Personal Training Terms and Conditions Health Screening
All clients must complete a PAR-Q and informed consent form before commencing any exercise programme.
Your trainer may require a letter of ‘medical clearance’ from your Doctor. Please be aware that your Doctor may charge you for this.
24 hours notice of cancellation is required for all appointments.
Notice of less than 24 hours notice will incur full payment of the session fee.
If the client is late for a session the session will not be extended and will end at the appointed time.
If the trainer is late, additional time will be added to the session or to subsequent sessions.
Fee Charging Policy
Payment for single sessions must either be made at the time of booking by bank transfer or paid in cash on the day of the session.
Block bookings of 10 sessions must be paid for in advance and in full BUT sessions do not have to be booked in advance.
All monies paid are non-refundable.

"Although I do a lot of running, my GP advised me that "at your age" you should also be doing some strength and resistance work. I was looking for a PT that worked with me, not against me, and as no longer a youngster I did not want some sort of 'boot camp'. I have held a weekly session with Gav for the past six months and have seen visible improvements in tone and muscle but perhaps more importantly an increase in my energy levels. Shifting half a tone of compost at my allotment in one morning recently was completed without feeling exhausted either during or afterwards. My sessions with Gavin are hard work (that's what I expect) but done in a constructive and gently encouraging way that focuses as much on form and technique as well as actual weights shifted. I am very satisfied with what Gavin has helped me achieve so far."

"The training is excellent. I have never done a zoom class before but would recommend Gav's. The notification comes 30 mins before so plenty of time to sort yourself out. A recording is sent either the same day or the next day allowing you to catch up, if you've missed a session, or do an extra session if you want to!! Each exercise is clearly explained and often there are a number of alternatives catering for individual's ability. I have tried following videos in the past but usually give up before the end. Having Gav leading the session helps keep me going to the end. Gav telephones you before you start the course to discuss it and offers nutritional advice. He also publishes articles on his website. What I particularly like is he never tries to sell you anything other than the next session. These are Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 2pm. Highly recommend. Thank you Gav. "

Every session commences with a warm-up and is closed by a cool down in order to avoid injury and muscle soreness. In addition, each session is recorded and sent via email to you should you wish to repeat the session. This recording is just of Gav demonstrating each exercise so there's no need to feel self-conscious about you being recorded. If you have never tried a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) session then I highly recommend you give these training session a go and come and join us. These sessions are fun and aimed at maintaining your mobility, flexibility and aerobic capacity as we move into the next chapter of our life."
